Welcome to Hearts and Bees!!!

Hi!  We're Ali and Kelly, the creators of Hearts & Bees, a new pattern company!  You all might have heard of Ali who blogs over at http://www.asquaredw.com and Kelly who blogs at http://kelbysews.blogspot.com  We've been friends for a few years and recently got together for a girls' sewing weekend.  When Ali showed Kelly her recent quilt mock up, the conversation went something like this:

Ali:  See?  I'm going to make it in Cotton & Steel basics.

Kelly:  Oh my gosh!!!! I love it!  It's going to be beautiful!  How do you construct that block?

Ali:  (explains)

Kelly: (with scrunched up nose) That's nice, but I'd never take the time to make it.  I'm way too lazy!  Can't you make the block bigger?

Ali:  That's not my design.

Kelly:  Well, if I did it, I'd make the blocks huge so I finish faster.  (You can be brutally honest and snarky with your friends, right?)

This conversation continued until we started talking about how we each see a block or pattern differently.  From a quilt's inception to fabric selection, we have our own unique ideas!  Like many quilters, we tweak and modify patterns often and we thought it would be a cool idea to create quilt patterns that give two quilters' takes on the same concept.  So in a weekend filled with carbs, spray painting gold dinosaurs, and sewing, Heart & Bees was born!

Here is our first digital pattern, Bonne Maman!

Here, you can see our individual versions. Each quilt uses the same basic block idea, but the construction and size are completely different.  You will get BOTH versions in the pattern.  Full directions for both block sizes are included, as well as how to make baby through king size quilts. That's 8 options! You can purchase the pattern on Craftsy or Etsy.

We have several more patterns coming soon so stay tuned!

  6. Love your pattern. I bought it off Craftsy. Wondering what fabric did you use for the background on Ali's version? Thanks so much from the color-challenged

  7. So here is what my night was like last night. I saw your quilt in my IG feed, couldn't get it out of my head. I remembered it had some kind of "interesting name" and for some weird reason remembered what it was. So I googled "Bonne Maman" and all I could find was something about jams and jellies and kept thinking "where the heck is Bonne's QUILTING link???" So then I had to scroll back to find the picture again in my feed, etc., finally tracked down the pattern (which I purchased right away so I wouldn't have to go through the whole thing again), then found the blog and realized it was you two!!! Whew! So awesome. Congratulations on your new adventure. Rest assured that I have things tagged every place possible so it will be easier for me next time. :)
P.S. Why is the quilt pattern named Bonne Maman? Did you guys eat lots of jam during your discussion process? haha
